Guidance and Counseling Program

The Guidance and Counseling Program here at MES remains preventative in nature and is based upon the developmental needs of the students.  Our goal is to provide students with tools to maximize intellectual and emotional growth, improving character and academic success.  Throughout the year, students will alternate between classroom guidance and small group guidance.  Each class will participate in a guidance activity on a weekly basis, with topics being determined by student needs and the State Standards of Learning.

The guidance activities are designed to improve the student's ability to be successful, not only in school, but in life.  Materials used during the guidance activities are available for your review.  Students will identify emotions and learn to deal with them effectively.  They will develop skills to assist them in becoming responsible citizens, and will learn the value of developing and exercising good character.  As the year progresses, I hope that you will recognize improvements in your child's character as we strive to improve social skills, increase self-confidence, and develop a positive self-concept.

Occasionally, a need arises for individual counseling or small group counseling.  If I ever believe that your child is in need of counseling, I will contact you to discuss the details and request permission to offer this service.  There may also come a time when you have questions or concerns regarding your child.  Please feel free to contact me by phone, email, or personal appointment.

Please contact me if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding the Guidance and Counseling Program.  I will be at MES on Wednesdays, Fridays, and every other Monday.  I look forward to working with your child and having you join me in these efforts to facilitate his/her positive self-growth.
