Geometry Syllabus

COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course will provide the opportunity for students to develop spatial sense and reasoning skills.  Students will use the language of geometry to communicate an understanding of properties and characteristics that encompass geometry.  Students will also investigate patterns and relationships among geometric shapes.

 

TEXTBOOK: Glencoe Geometry

 

CLASSROOM MATERIALS: Students are expected to have their textbooks, notebooks, paper, pencil, TI-83/84 graphing calculator, and other necessary materials in class.

 

GRADING:

            Homework is given on a daily basis and is taken up for a grade 2-3 times a week.  Review work is given for quizzes and test.  Homework counts towards 40% of the average.

            Vocabulary Quizzes are given on a weekly basis and cover the vocabulary and theorems covered in class during the week.  Sectional Quizzes are given weekly or biweekly depending on the material covered in class.  Quizzes count towards 35% of the average.

            Tests are given at the end of each chapter.  Sometimes the chapter may be split and two tests given.  Test count towards 25% of the average.

            Projects are given each 9 weeks and are worth 2 quiz grades.  No late projects are accepted unless with a doctors excuse.

            First Semester Exam covers material taught in the 1st and 2nd 9 weeks.

            Final Semester Exam covers material taught in the all 9 weeks.

            No Extra Credit is given for individual students.  Extra credit is only given to classes as a whole at the instructor’s discretion.

 

ACADEMIC HONESTY: All instances of cheating constitute violations of the academic honesty  policy of Bath County Public Schools and will be addressed in accordance with the policy set forth in the 2006-2007 Student Handbook.

 

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP WORK: Each student is expected to attend school every day except in case of illness.  Students who are absent from school for any reason are responsible for work they have missed.  It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for any assignments missed, get notes from day(s) missed from fellow classmate, and turn in any work missed within two days of absence.  If a student needs help with work missed, then the student needs to come to after school tutoring on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:45 till 4:30pm.
