Discrete Mathematics Syllabus

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Discrete Mathematics involves applications using discrete variables rather than continuous variables. Modeling and understanding finite systems is central to the development of the economy, the natural and physical sciences, and mathematics itself. Discrete Mathematics introduces the topics of social choice as a mathematical application, matrices and their uses, graph theory and its applications, and counting and finite probability, as well as the processes of optimization, existence, and algorithm construction.

TEXTBOOK: Discrete Mathematics through Applications

CLASSROOM MATERIALS: Students are expected to have their textbooks, notebooks, paper, pencil, TI-83/84 graphing calculator, and other necessary materials in class.

GRADING:

Homework is given on a daily basis and is taken up for a grade 2-3 times a week.  Review work is given for quizzes and test.  Homework counts towards 40% of the average.
