Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services

Our goal at Bath County Public Schools is to provide every student with opportunities for a free appropriate public education. Special education services are available to Bath County residents who have children who are identified as needing special education services.  A continuum of services and programs are provided for children with disabilities  starting at age two and can continue until  their  twenty-second  birthday. Services provided are  based on the individual needs of each student, as determined by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

Each special education student’s progress is reviewed at least yearly and his/her need for special services is reassessed at a minimum of every three years.  Special education programs and services are provided by trained personnel in the following areas as defined by federal and state law:  autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, intellectual disability, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, serious emotional disturbance, serve and profound disability, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury or visual impairment including blindness.
