BCHS Generator: Ready When Needed

Body

Workers are finishing up the installation of the new Bath County High School power generator.  The system was powered up for the first time on August 8, and for several minutes, provided backup electricity for much of the high school complex.  The project is funded by the Bath County Board of Supervisors to provide emergency power for areas of the high school that may be used as a community shelter in the event of a declared local emergency.  All three of the division schools are designated Red Cross emergency shelters, but the high school is the primary site for these services--it is centrally located in the county, has the most space, and includes the most comprehensive facilities.  The generator will be managed by BARC.
