It was a big day
for the Charger wind turbine design team at the KidWind
US Eastern Regional Finals at James Madison University! The redesign of the project since the state competition at Virginia Tech a couple of weeks ago doubled the amount of generated power, and again earned the Judges Trophy for the best overall design. The team received encouragement from both judges and competitors for the unique design, and have a few tweaks in mind that should significantly improve power output for next year's competition. The day and the build process had much broader implications for all involved: students from different disciplines worked as a team to complete the project, they learned a great deal of scientific content in the project design and redesign, they could see and hear that they had what it takes to be successful solving real-word problems, and they could effectively communicate their findings to others! Mertz Career & Technical Center rocks!
