Crystal Jean Coffman is the new principal of Valley Elementary School! She began her new duties on Wednesday, July 17, meeting with the School Improvement Team.
Ms. Coffman earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Virginia Tech, a Masters of Science degree at Shenandoah University and she holds a Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in Health and PE K-12, Drivers Education, and Administration and Supervision K-12. She brings fifteen years of public school experience teaching Health and Physical Education at the elementary, middle and high school levels in Augusta County (13 years) and Roanoke County (2 years) as well as administrative internships at the elementary, middle and secondary levels. She is also an experienced girls basketball coach at the high school and collegiate levels.
Ms. Coffman describes herself as “purpose driven” and ready to lead Valley Elementary School to future successes. Her most recent principal and assistant principal write, “ I believe that her finest quality is her hard work and dedication to doing a superior job.” and “She is a hard worker and a fast learner. She shows compassion and common sense when working with staff and students. She has served as a lead member on our School Improvement Team, assists staff with technology and has taken lead roles in SOL testing.” Another former administrator writes, “ … she flourished as an effective leader by advocating for the educational needs of every student and staff member, and she demonstrated integrity and fairness in an ethical manner.”
